    DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., July 14, 2016 - Applications for the 2016 South Florida Business Aviation Association (SFBAA) aviation scholarships are currently being accepted; the submission deadline is August 1, 2016. Local high school students can find eligibility criteria and download an application on our homepage: sfbaa.org.

    The SFBAA scholarship program is designed to reward an outstanding south Florida high school senior that plans to further his/her education in the aviation field. Three finalists will be selected and one winner will receive up to $3,500 to go toward the school of his/her choosing.

    The Dave Davis Memorial Scholarship recognizes a south Florida high school senior who has made an outstanding community service contribution throughout his/her high school career. The winner will receive a minimum of $3,500 to go toward his/her college education.

    “The SFBAA scholarships play a vital role in the lives of graduating high school seniors,” said Jeff Ramsden, SFBAA president. “They are the future of our industry and we hope to support them through our scholarships for many years to come.”

    Twenty-eight local high school students applied for the SFBAA’s 2015 scholarships. Entries were reviewed and winners were selected by the organization’s scholarship committee.

    The SFBAA gave $3,500 general scholarships to Hakeem Bailey of Spanish River High School in Boca Raton and Kyle Miller of Deerfield Beach High School. Both students plan to put their scholarships toward their education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

    Additionally, the SFBAA awarded a $5,000 Dave Davis Memorial scholarship to Cristina Trabada of West Broward High School in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Trabada received the scholarship for her work as a camp counselor at Experience Aviation’s STEM Summer Academy in Opa-Locka, Fla.

    The SFBAA has raised more than $200,000 for scholarships and charities in the past 12 years.

    DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., June 1, 2016 - The South Florida Business Aviation Association (SFBAA) raised more than $2,500 at a fundraising event in support of Shaesta Waiz, the first certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan, and her historic “DreamsSoar” solo flight around the world.

    “The SFBAA is proud to support Shaesta,” said Jeff Ramsden, SFBAA president. “She isliterally helping advance the aviation industry on a global scale among the next generation of female science, technology, engineering and mathematics professionals and pilots.”

    The SFBAA’s fundraising event was held at Orion Jet Center on May 26, 2016. More than $2,500 was raised through a silent auction that included several sunset flights on a private jet, vacation packages, catering packages, aircraft detailing and sports memorabilia. All proceeds from the event benefitted Dreams Soar.

    The Dreams Soar mission is to partner with inspiring female role models at the 31 stops along the route and host outreach events to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and careers in STEM fields.

    Waiz launched Dreams Soar while attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University so she could share her message on the importance of STEM education on a global scale.

    DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., March 15, 2016 - The South Florida Business Aviation Association (SFBAA) and Air Charter Advisors are hosting a CPR certification day for South Florida business aviation professionals on Thursday, April 7, 2016 in conjunction with World Health Day.

    “When the SFBAA approached me about doing the event, I saw that World Health Day was coming up in just a few months,” said Adam Steiger, president and founder of Air Charter Advisors. “It seemed like a great way to give back to the community and help people learn a potentially life-saving skill.”

    The SFBAA’s CPR certification day will be held at Signature Flight Support located at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, 4050 Southwest 11th Terrace, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 7.

    DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., Feb. 10, 2016 - The South Florida Business Aviation Association (SFBAA) is hosting a breakfast to discuss the new regulations for flying in and out of Cuba; the event will take place on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.

    “These new regulations are important to our industry and to South Florida,” said Jeff Ramsden, SFBAA president. “The SFBAA is committed to staying up to date with current industry practices and educating our membership and the business aviation industry as a whole.”

    The SFBAA breakfast will be held at the Jet Runway Cafe located at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, 5540 Northwest 21st Terrace, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on February 17. This is a free event.

    The speakers are Charles Bishop of the Miami branch of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Maria Otero from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office.

    The speaker presentations will include information on the current OFAC program and recent change; categories of authorized travel to Cuba; importation and exportation of goods to and from Cuba; authorized airports; rule for travelers to and from Cuba; and rules related to providers of carriage by air between the United States and Cuba.

    The South Florida Business Aviation Association (SFBAA) raised nearly $40,000 at its 12th annual golf tournament, the SFBAA Charity Golf Classic. The money will be awarded to multiple SFBAA scholarship recipients and several charities.

    The 2015 SFBAA Charity Golf Classic hosted 180 golfers at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens on October 31, 2015.

    The SFBAA will award general scholarships to two outstanding high school seniors from the south Florida area who plan to further their education in the aviation field. The organization will also award a Dave Davis Memorial Scholarship to a south Florida high school senior who has made an outstanding contribution of community service during his/her high school career.

    The scholarships will be presented at the SFBAA general membership meeting on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Jet Aviation in West Palm Beach.

    Remaining proceeds raised at the golf tournament will be donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation, Angel Flight Southeast and Christian Air Services.

    “The SFBAA scholarships play a vital role in the aviation careers of graduating high school seniors,” said Jeff Ramsden, SFBAA president. “It is our privilege to contribute to their futures in addition to supporting other national charities.”

    DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., Oct. 12, 2015 - The South Florida Business Aviation Association (SFBAA) will represent South Florida at the state’s first-ever General Aviation Caucus.

    “The SFBAA proud to represent South Florida at the first General Aviation Caucus,” said Jeff Ramsden, SFBAA president. “It’s important that we do our part to help educate our legislators on the many benefits of business aviation to the state of Florida.”

    The Florida General Aviation Caucus will take place in Tallahassee on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

    General aviation represents a more than $7.7 billion dollar a year business for the state of Florida. The new General Aviation Caucus will create a forum in which this industry can promote the value of general aviation among Florida public officials.

    The SFBAA, the Florida Aviation Business Association (FABA), the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the Florida Airports Council (FAC) and others representing aviation in Florida will be attending the caucus.
