Safety Day &
General Membership Meeting

We will be combining our next General Membership Meeting with a Safety Day, to take place on Monday, October 7th from 2pm to 8pm at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE).  These are 2 separate events, but we are having them on the same day back-to-back.  You may attend one or both, it's up to you!

Aircare International will be running safety sessions covering Emergency Evacuations on their FACTS Simulator and another about Hypoxia Awareness from 2pm to 5:30pm.  These are taking place at their facility at Windsor Jet (1815 NW 51st Pl. Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308). Space is limited, so if you'd like to participate in the safety sessions please RSVP to Chris Salley as soon as possible.

Emergency Evacuations on the FACTS Simulator - attendees will be able to experience hard landings, turbulence, and water ditching scenarios. The Aircare FACTS Simulator is a fully-enclosed aircraft cockpit and cabin simulator featuring Falcon, Bombardier, and Gulfstream over-wing exits as well as a main cabin door. This educational program will highlight various emergency situations, crew responsibilities and evacuation considerations.

Hypoxia Awareness - this program will highlight the signs and symptoms associated with hypoxia, as well as the emergency procedures associated with rapid decompression. Attendees will be able to experience exposure to hypoxia through use of our proprietary Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device and simulation software.

Following the safety sessions we will be having our usual networking/hors d'oeuvres and then a guest speaker, Dr. Jerry Cockrell at the Banyan FBO Hangar from 6pm to 8pm.  He will be discussing Human Factors in Aviation Safety.

Dr. Jerry Cockrell is a psychologist, aviator and aviation humorist. A former Boeing 737 Captain, he retired after flying a Boeing 747-400 on international routes for an FAR 121 carrier with over 20,000 flying hours. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and Education. Beginning his work in 1977, Dr. Cockrell was one of the earliest developers of Crew Resource Management programs and was also the first speaker to make aviation safety presentations in all 50 states as well as in England, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Mexico and Canada. His ‘down-home’ style and hilarious anecdotes have charmed, educated and entertained audiences around the world.
