On May 26th, the SFBAA will be hosting our monthly Afterburner Social, but we will also be tying in a special fundraising event to help promote the Dreams Soar initiative and Shaesta Waiz’s incredible flight around the world.  Shaesta was born in Afghanistan and came over to the United States at an early age.  She attended Embry Riddle where she earned her Bachelor and Masters degree.  Several years ago Shaesta founded the Dreams Soar initiative, whose mission is to partner with strong female role models at the 31 stops on her around-the-world flight to share and promote the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.  All information on Shaesta and her efforts can be found at www.dreamssoar.org.

Our fundraiser will be taking place at the Orion Jet Center at Opa Locka Executive Airport from 5:30-7:30pm.  Shaesta will be flying her bonanza down from Daytona and will be saying a few words about her program and her upcoming travels.  There will be food and beverages served (special thanks to Hangar 1 Catering) and we will be holding a silent and live auction to raise money for her travels.  So far auction prizes will include several private jet sunset flights, vacation packages, catering packages, aircraft detailing, and several other great prizes.

We would like to open this event to the public and our goal is to raise at least $5,000.  Please be sure to invite your friends/clients and anyone else you think may be interested in helping to support her cause.

If you would like to be a sponsor of the event or donate a prize for auction, please contact Jeff Ramsden at 954-359-0208 or jr@ramjetavaition.com

About Shaesta Waiz
Shaesta was born in a refugee camp. Her family traveled from Afghanistan to America in 1987 to escape the Soviet-Afghan war. After a long journey of pursuing an education in a non-traditional field, she became the first certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan and the first person in her family to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree, both from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

While at Embry-Riddle, Shaesta started the Women’s Ambassador Program, an initiative that seeks to mentor and support young women pursuing an education in aviation and engineering. She launched Dreams Soar so she could share her message on the importance of STEM education a global scale.
